Online workshop: Lunar New Year

13 February 2021 @ 10:00 am 10:45 am UTC+0

Sign on for a live artist-led tutorial on experimenting with craft and design processes using materials found at home. During this fun and informal workshop, artist and Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) artist educator Jocelyn Hsin-Ju Yang will demonstrate how to make paper cutouts for Lunar New Year.

MAD’s Digital Drop-ins are for participants of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels. Following the demonstration, participants will have time to independently work on their project and share with “neighbors” in the virtual class.

All Digital Drop-ins are 45 minutes. Registrants will receive an email 24 hours in advance of the program for accessing the workshop on Zoom.

Suggested Materials

  • Pencil
  • Origami paper (works the best for its thickness and shape. If not available, construction paper or tissue paper could also work). Paper cutouts for Lunar New Year are traditionally in red, but it’s your choice. It’s not uncommon to see other colors for paper cutout decorations during Lunar New Year today, especially among the younger generation.
  • Scissors
