Travel Journals with Susan Joy Share

A new spring workshop at Center for Book Arts in NYC.
Create a series of soft cover travel journals with paper covers for writing, drawing, collage, etc., and several compartments for tucking away collected items. We’ll learn basic folding and sewing techniques as we make pocket-sized books, perfect for walks or hikes, and a larger one for when you are settled in with time to reflect.The class will include several cover styles and time to personalize your books with designs and closures. We’ll look at a selection of artists’ travel journals and talk about custom sizes and content. Whether journeying near or far, or keeping a journal at home, we’ll make a book you’ll want to keep close at hand.
Center for Book Arts promotes active explorations of both contemporary and traditional artistic practices related to the book as an art object. CBA seeks to facilitate communication between the book arts community and the larger spheres of contemporary visual and literary arts, while being a model organization locally, nationally, and internationally within the field.
