Weaving with Paper by Nicole (Warped Fibers)

July 28 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

36698 $35 / $30 for Members

Explore paper weaving that goes beyond the placemats you made as a kid! Paper weaving is a fun, fast, and inexpensive way to weave without a loom. Learn the basics of paper weaving including set-up and the importance of material choice. Plus, how to create and combine your own patterns, creating shapes, how to secure your work, and more.

We will be creating 2 types of paper weavings: 1. Full strip weavings where we are only working with paper strips. 2. Partial strip weavings where we will cut and weave into our paper.

Materials Needed:

  • Paper of your choice pre-cut into ¼ inch strips
  • Uncut paper no larger than 8 ½ x 11
  • X-acto knife
  • Cutting mat
  • Masking tape
  • Graph paper
  • Pencil
  • Recommended papers: watercolor, bristol, or similarly stiff paper
  • Other paper ideas: handmade paper, photographs, old drawings or journals, painted paper etc.

About the Artist

Nicole Bunting is a weaver, instructor, and the creator of Warped Fibers – a weaving resource site dedicated to teaching anyone and everyone to love weaving as much as she does. She has written 4 ebooks, published an online tapestry course, has an online shop where she sells kits and weaving merch, and a Patreon where you can access exclusive content. Nicole has been weaving with paper since she was in college. As a textile student who wanted to continue weaving at home, but didn’t have a loom, she started to explore paper as a weaving medium and hasn’t stopped since.
