Who we are

The Guild of American Papercutters is a non-profit organization, and you can see the members of our Board and more about our mission to spread the joy of paper art throughout the world on our website (https://papercutters.org/). We do, in the course of your using our website and receiving our mailings, collect some of your data and store it safely. We do not share your data or personal information with anyone, except insofar as we may use what you share to contact you about your membership with the Guild. There are certain types of data you may not have considered, however, the sharing of which on our site can result in your being traced over the internet by others, especially advertisers.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

MailPoet newsletter & emails

If you have subscribed to our newsletter or if you are a member of our website (you can log in) or if you have purchased on our website, there is a good chance you will receive emails from us.

We will only send you emails which you have signed up to receive, or which pertain to the services we provided to you.

To send you emails, we use the name and email address you provide us. Our site also logs the IP address you used when you signed up for the service to prevent abuse of the system.

This website can send emails through the MailPoet sending service. This service allows us to track opens and clicks on our emails. We use this information to improve the content of our newsletters.

No identifiable information is otherwise tracked outside this website except for the email address.

Cookies

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

What data we collect and how long we retain your data

We do not actively collect your data on our site; we take your privacy very seriously. We do want you to feel welcome as a member of the Guild, and we will occasionally try to contact you using your phone number or email, which you may share in your Member Contact section. When you take a class with us, we collect your mailing address; we do not send mailings out to non-members, however; if you are a member, we will use the address you share to verify and send out your yearly gift by snail mail. We also maintain a zip code and state/country directory search that other members may use.

For all users of the website who have a profile, we store the personal information they provide in their user profile, but we do not use this for advertising or other purposes. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information. If you have trouble remembering your password, you can always use the “reset” option to choose a new one.

Your rights over your data

If you have an account on our site, have donated to us or made a purchase on our website, are a member of GAP, have taken classes with us, subscribe to a mailing list we run, or have left comments on the site, you can send a request at any time to our webmasters at gap@papercutters.org and we will send an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you, and we will comply promptly. This does not include any data we are legally obligated to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Use of your data, and our security protocols

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Otherwise, we do not sell or share your information, ever. Your contact information is only used by Board members concerned with Membership, for example to contact you to renew your membership, and if you would prefer not to be contacted, we will erase it at your request and not contact you. We want to live up to your trust in us as an organization. We are proud to share with you that, in order to support our security policies, our site relies on the excellent protocols maintained by our eco-friendly internet service provider, Green Geeks Web Hosting (https://www.greengeeks.in/).
