Inspired by the universality of geometric perfection also known as Sacred Geometry, I create interlocking stencils based upon Amish piece quilts, Celtic knotwork patterns and Islamic ornamental tiles. For my papercuts, the stencils are traced and hand cut into a single sheet of painted paper. Using only a snap blade, I work slowly to create complex patterns that counter visual skimming. While my work presents a sense of unity and perfection, subtle imperfections intentionally do occur. Knowing perfection is impossible, my precise methods are nonetheless meditative and prayer-like. By creating immersive works, I transform the noisy public place into a quiet intimate space conducive to reflection. As the matrix of the universe (as revealed in fractals from the micro to the macro that also includes the human body) I believe Sacred Geometry is the perfect proof of our shared humanity.
