Paper cutting is the prelude to writing.
Hans Christian Andersen
Hans Christian Andersen (in Denmark, H.C. Andersen), was a sensitive writer and artist, a prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, a victim of serial unrequited loves (of two genders!), and a creative spirit best remembered now for his fairy tales. His papercuttings, of which over 400 still exist out of many more, have recently come into better focus, resulting in a beautiful children’s biography for instance by Beth Wagner Brust, The Amazing Paper Cuttings of Hans Christian Andersen (Boston: Houghton Mifflin Co. 1994), as well as the Bremen exhibit of October 2018 – February 2019 (https://www.dw.com/en/hans-christian-andersens-lesser-known-talent-paper-cuttings/a-45924839).
